Target's credit card system was hacked recently and as many as 110 million customers had their credit card information stolen. After this incident, Target lost 46% of profits, which is a lot considering the size of their business. The full year revenue in 2013 actually was increased, but their profits decreased because of this incident.
Target Credit Card Scandal
The next scandal was the BP oil spill. In April of 2010, a oil rig called Deepwater Horizon has a gas release and an explosion, causing oil to spill into the Gulf of Mexico. 11 people died as a result of this incident by the explosion and the fire from the boat. As of December 31, 2013, they had spent more then $14 billion dollars in attempts of cleaning up the incident.
